In a bone graft transplanting procedure (or referred as an autogenous bone block grafting procedure), bone is harvested from one site and transferred to another site within the oral cavity to increase the volume of bone for the purpose of sustaining the support of a dental implant.
This procedure requires two surgical sites, the harvest site and the donor site and therefore is more involved and demanding for the patient but the rewards are often worth it in the long run since the bone grafting procedure utilizes the patient's own bone (autogenous bone) often resulting in more successful results compared to the other types of bone graft material used.
